Psychodelic, baby!
Here is a piece of work form the Psychodelic style of art. I chose it because there is a background AND a foreground, and the message is kinda funny. Looks like it could glow in the dark, right?

let's try a familiar face
Mario here takes up the bulk of the space with his nemesis in the back of the action but is large and dominating nonetheless. A great hero shot if I do say so myself. Good design, in my opinion.
a positive and well-designed piece from childhood
Similar to the Mario pic with the leading character occupying most of the space. This is Superbook, one of my favorite shows growing up. I like its design. Do you?

Retrojunk.com - where all the cool stuff is
I am a big fan of Retrojunk.com. The blast-from-the-past experience it provides with past movies, commercials, PSAs, and even TV shows is a great, fun-filled one every time. Ghosts from TV and movies past - the stuff you'd never thought you see again from your childhood if you grew up in the 70's, 80's and 90's - are there for you to watch and enjoy all over again. To me, it's a refresher from all of the lameness in today's entertainment. I grew up in the 90's, so...you know.
Anywayz, the reasons that I'm such a fan of this website is not just because I can find just about anything(mostly visual) I want from my childhood, but also because of its home and inside pages. The homepage is easy to navigate through AND it features all of the favorite cartoon characters I and people from my generation remember right by the logo. They're mostly video game characters, plus characters from television, animated and non-animated. Click into the any one of the navigation choices under it, and the inside page gives you a choice of which era you want to visit : 70's, 80's, and 90's. I like the design of this page with Beavis and Butthead next to 90's and Alf next to 80's. Cant get any screenshots here is the link:

02/07/2011 Blog # 2 - more graphic art
Here is something I found from an issue of Communication Arts. On the left, there are three different freeze-frame sequences of three different PSAs featuring James Lipton, each sending a message about considering what you text before you text. And on the right, there are three different billboards of three different people wearing James Lipton's beard, each having its own version of the same message: Before you text, give it a ponder. What I like about what's on the right is 1) There are young people (two being female) wearing James Lipton's beard, which is funny enough, and 2) their faces as they are "pondering" with what each is thinking in a humorous caption above their heads.

My first GDS history blog

This is the cover for Michael Jackson's Off The Wall album. I have this album, and I was going to take a picture of the cover myself with my digital camera. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough battery power to take the picture, so I had to get it from the web. I've always liked this album cover, so I wanted to use it for my first blog. It being an album cover, its function is to draw viewers attention in the hopes that they will buy this album. I did, obviously, and that is why I have with me at my place. The design here is simple, yet intriguing - a brickwall background and Michael Jackson's legs smackdab in front of it, so it looks like he is literally off the wall, whether that was the idea or not. The kind of type used for name and title of the album seems appropriate for this kind of setting. It almost looks graffiti-like. Looking as if Michael is outside of a brick building and the type resembling graffiti, they go well together since graffiti is typically on brick or concrete buildings. What attracts me most to this is brick wall. I have an affinity for brick wall type backgrounds, so was ideal for me. It's simple, yet complex. Each brick is slightly different, in both color and shape, but has the same range. Also there is the light coming from the top. I think it sets a mood, both light and...nostalgic. Plus, it makes it stand out more. A good piece of design, in my opinion.
